Drunk Only Tuesday, May 6th, 1879

If you have ever read a historical newspaper, one of the first things you notice is, they are written a lot different than today. In the 1800, reporters were gifted with the skill of the quill!

Here is an article from The Telegram published on Tuesday, May 6^th, 1879. Titled: Drunk Only.

Andrew Kearney, laborer, was charged with being drunk on Water Street. It appears that poor Andy had heard the most glowing descriptions of the mineral wealth of Little Bay and made up his mind to try his fortune there.

But his sorrow at the idea of bidding farewell to the tender associations with which home is always invested, led him to seek forgetfulness in the oblivious cup.

He quaffed and fell, and hence his appearance in court this morning.

His worship, however, in his anxiety to develop the mineral resources of the country, allowed Andy to make the necessary preparations for his projected trip north ward.

So, basically, poor Andy got a job in mines in Little Bay and went out celebrating. He was so sad about leaving home that he got drink and got jailed.
